Out of the five exclusive itineraries promoted by Maharajas' Express train, three itineraries are of 8Days/7Nights viz. Heritage of India – 07 nights

Day 1 Saturday - Departure for Aurangabad

Welcome aboard the Maharajas' Express. This afternoon, assemble at 1430 hours at The Taj Mahal Palace and Tower, Mumbai and complete your registration and check in formalities at the hotel for the Maharajas’ Express. Following which, you will proceed to the Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus. On arrival you will be greeted with a welcome drink and the Police Band playing as you board the Maharajas’ Express. The Maharajas’ Express departs Mumbai at 1640 hours and travels through the land of the Marathas to Ajanta. Dinner on board. Overnight on the Maharajas' Express.

Day 2 Sunday - Aurangabad

Today you arrive into the World Heritage site of Ajanta. Enjoy an early morning breakfast on board the train at 0630 hours. Later, following disembarkation at 0740 hours at Pachora station, you will be driven to the World Heritage site of Ajanta Caves famous for its rock cut cave monuments which date back to the 2nd century BC. The drive by road to Ajanta Caves takes approximately 90 mins. The Ajanta caves consist of 30 caves including an unfinished one, which belong to the period 200 BC to 650 AD. These Buddhist cave temples and monasteries are cut from the rocks and volcanic lava of the Deccan in the forest ravines of the Sahyadri hills and are set in beautiful sylvan surroundings. They were discovered accidentally by a British Captain, John Smith in 1819, on a hunting expedition. The Ajanta caves provide a unique combination of architecture, sculpture and paintings. The caves are mainly known for their exquisite frescoes and sculptures, depicting scenes from life of Buddha. Return to the Jalgaon station by 1330 hours. This is followed by lunch on board the train as the Maharajas’ Express chugs away for its next destination, Udaipur. Enjoy a leisurely evening on board with dinner. Overnight on the Maharajas’ Express. IMPORTANT: The road journey from station to Ajanta Caves will be approximately 60 kms. The sightseeing of Ajanta Caves takes approximately 2 hours and involves climbing high steps. Please also note that it is mandatory to take off shoes to enter into the caves in view of the religious sanctity of Buddhism.

Day 3 Monday - Udaipur

This morning you will wake up in the picturesque region of Mewar, one of the most popular and royal states of the Rajputana. Admire the magnificent landscape of the Aravali Hills arriving into Udaipur - the City of Lakes. Disembark the train at 1000 hours as you begin your visit with a boat ride on Lake Pichola. Following the boat ride visit the City Palace, the largest palace complex in Rajasthan, with its scalloped arches, fretted balconies, and cupolas. Visit Mor Chowk and see its lavish mosaics of peacocks; Moti Mahal with beautiful mirror work; Chini Mahal covered in ornamental tiles and the spectacular Zenana Mahal where-after visit The Crystal Gallery and the Darbar Hall with an audio guide. Feel like a king as you experience the hospitality at the Satkar Hall of Fateh Prakash Palace reminiscent of the ancient Mewar glory. Day 4 Tuesday - Jodhpur

This morning, the Maharajas’ Express, continues her journey into the stronghold of the Marwar region. Enjoy a leisurely breakfast on board arriving into the Blue City of Jodhpur. The morning is at leisure on board or you may wish to embark on a village safari to the Bishnoi village as an Optional Activity, for which you’ll deboard at Rohet, 40 km before Jodhpur. As the train reaches Jodhpur, you may wish to opt for a Spa at a Five Star hotel or Private Shopping Tour or Visit to Jaswant Thada and Umaid Bhawan Palace Museum. Return to the train for lunch on-board. Post lunch visit the magnificent Meherangarh Fort. Admire the intricate latticed windows, elaborately carved panels and elegantly curved porches. Followed by a walking tour of the Old Clock Tower Market. As you reach the Market on Tuk Tuks, get a glimpse of the daily lifestyle of the local residents, passing some of the oldest houses and havelis. Day 5 Wednesday - Bikaner

Your journey through the desert continues. As you relish your breakfast on board, enjoy observing the desert scenery, the scattered prosopis cineraria trees; the villagers attired in their bright turbans and the occasional herd of camels breaking the monotony of the desert. The medieval city of Bikaner was once a major centre in the cross-desert caravan trade. Popularly known as Camel Country, Bikaner has the best riding camels in the world. Bikaner’s forts, palaces and temples are splendid architectural legacy. Late morning arrive into the desert citadel of Bikaner and relax on board OR you may choose to embark on an optional tour of the city visiting Lalgarh Palace Museum displaying some fascinating exhibits on the royal heritage of Bikaner or visit the famous Deshnok (rat temple). Following lunch, you will disembark by 1400 hours and proceed on a visit to the Junagarh Fort, an unassailable fortress built in 1593 AD by Raja Rai Singh. While the fort is a formidable structure encircled by a moat, its real beauty lies inside. Be overwhelmed by the Diwan-i-Khas, Phool Mahal (Flower Palace), Hawa Mahal, Badal Mahal and Anup Mahal. The Fort Museum is fascinating and adorned with ornate decorative costumes and jewellery. Continue on an experience of a lifetime! Experience the royal pageantry as a convoy of decorated canopied camel carts accompanied by musicians takes you for a Sundowner on the Sand Dunes. Day 6 Thurdsday - Jaipur

Today, you will arrive into the ‘Pink City’ of Jaipur. Jaipur is truly a pristine jewel in the crown of the desert state of Rajasthan. Built by Raja Jai Singh in the 18th century, Jaipur is renowned for its magnificent palaces, forts and temples. Disembark at 1000 hrs as your exciting tour of the Pink City begins with a visit to the Amber Fort situated on a ridge just outside Jaipur city, this fort palace is surrounded by fortified battlements overlooking the Maota Lake. A short jeep ride takes you up to the fort where you will enjoy a tour of the royal apartments, with striking views of the gorge. Step back into the Mughal era as you enter the Chamber of Mirrors (Sheesh Mahal), and the Hall of Victory. Proceed for an exclusive royal experience. Your arrival at the venue will be accompanied by the band and the beating of ‘Nagadas’ (huge Indian drums). Day 7 Friday - Ranthambhore & Fatehpur Sikri

On arrival into Sawai Madhopur, early in the morning, get ready for a safari to the Ranthambore National Park. Originally the private hunting ground of the Maharajas, Ranthambore was declared a National Park in 1973. It is famous for its open sightings of tigers, sambar, chital, nilgai, chinkara, wild boar, sloth bear, hyena, jackal and leopard. Wildlife cannot be compared to that of Africa and you are indeed fortunate if you spot the elusive tiger or the shy leopard. Proceed for an early morning exciting game drive. The safari is carried out in open vehicles and the ride is quite bumpy. One must carry adequate warm clothes for winter months. Return to the train. Enjoy breakfast as you continue your journey to the fabled deserted Mughal city of Fatehpur Sikri. Admire the changing landscape as you savour lunch. On arrival at the quaint station of Fatehpur Sikri, disembark at 1545 hours and proceed on a tour of the fascinating sights comprising of imposing gateways, Halls of Private and Public audience, beautifully sculptured palaces with unique water bodies, reflecting a perfect blend of Hindu and Muslim architectural styles. This deserted red sandstone city was built by the great Mughal Emperor Akbar as his capital in the late 16th century. It is now a famous UNESCO World Heritage Site. Day 8 Saturday - Agra & Arrival at Delhi

Today, the train continues on her last leg of the journey towards the magical city of Agra. The jewel of India, home to one of the world’s great architectural wonders - the Taj Mahal. With its spectacular monumental masterpieces and picturesque natural setting, Agra is a legendary city glorified by time. Early morning, disembark and proceed to the world famous Taj Mahal (one of the Seven Wonders of the World). Also an UNESCO World Heritage Site, it was built by Shah Jahan as a mausoleum for his favorite queen Mumtaz. This incomparable marvel is constructed entirely out of white marble and is an architectural masterpiece with beautiful inlay work and marble screens. Approximately 20,000 of India’s most revered craftsmen were recruited to give shape to this poetry in marble. Later enjoy a Champagne breakfast gazing at the Taj Mahal, from atop the Taj Khema a table and over looking Taj. Following breakfast, return to the train.Enjoy a hearty lunch on board as you continue your journey to Delhi. Bid farewell to the Maharajas’ Express as your ‘The Heritage of India’ journey comes to an end at approximately 1530 hours on arrival into Safdarjung Station. Day 1 Saturday - Departure from Delhi

Day 2 Sunday - Agra

Arrive into the ‘City of Mughal Splendor’ - Agra to visit the exquisite Taj Mahal. Enjoy champagne breakfast at Taj Khema, over looking the Taj. Return back to the train Or take an optional tour to Itmad-ud-daula or a private shopping tour. Lunch on board. Day 3 Monday - Ranthambhore & Jaipur

Early morning, embark on an exciting game drive into the Ranthambore National Park. Return back to the train for a relaxed breakfast, while the train proceeds to Jaipur. After lunch disembark to visit the Jantar Mantar (Observatory). The Jantar Mantar at Jaipur is a collection of 19 astronomical instruments, built in 138 CE by the Rajpur ruler Sawai Jai Singh. Declared a UNESCO World Heritage site, it has the world’s largest stone sundial. You may choose to participate in one of the optional tours. Your visit continues to the opulent Jai Vilas Palace Museum, a section of which still remains the residence of the royal family of Gwalior. Admire the stupendous Durbar Hall with its crystal staircase, arched ceiling with stunning gold leaf work supporting two of the world’s largest chandeliers. The legend goes that in order to test the strength of the ceiling to support the chandeliers, several elephants were made to stand on the ceiling. Day 5

Enjoy a relaxed breakfast on board as the train continues its journey through some of the most dramatic and picturesque environs towards Khajuraho. Admire the rich landscape as you have lunch on board. Khajuraho is renowned for its architecture and exquisite sculptures. Built between 950 and 1050 AD in a truly inspired burst of creativity, the temples are superb examples of Indo-Aryan architecture. The highly sensual engravings depict the whole range of human emotions and relationships. On arrival proceed on a tour of the magnificent temples of Khajuraho, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Explore the Western group which constitutes some of the finest examples of Chandela art at its peak including the Kandariya Mahadev Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva. In the evening enjoy Dances of India Show at Kandariya Shilpgram or you may enjoy Spa facilities at Hotel or Sound and Light Show at the temple complex as an Optional Activity. Day 6

Today as you enjoy breakfast, your journey continues through rich agricultural fields, arriving into the holy city of Varanasi. One of the oldest living cities in the world, Varanasi (also known as Kashi or Benaras) has a spiritual legacy of over 3000 years. A place of pilgrimage, this holy city is set on the banks of the sacred river Ganges. Varanasi epitomizes the chaos and colour of India. Lively bazaars, exquisite and bright silks, festivals, temples, mosques and palaces – all can be found here. Following disembarkation, proceed for lunch at Hotel Taj Gateway, en-route visit a Silk Weaving Centre, where you may even shop for some world famous Banarasi silk saris and brocades. After lunch, visit the ancient ruins of Sarnath, where Buddha delivered his first sermon expounding the principles of Buddhism. Visit the ruins, stupa and the Ashoka Pillar, whose four back-to-back lions have been adopted as India’s national emblem. Enjoy a scenic cruise on the river Ganges and witness a magical evening aarti at the ghats of the holy Ganges. The chants of Sanskrit mantras, the clash of cymbals and drums, the scent of flowers, incense and sandalwood and the blazing camphor lamp and many a flamed aartis raised high in the air, makes for an absolute magical evening to remember!! Enjoy traversing through the lush green agricultural belt of Uttar Pradesh as the Maharajas’ Express slowly pulls into the fabled ‘City of Nawabs’, Lucknow. Relish your breakfast on board. This morning you will explore the dramatic ruins of Imperialistic Lucknow as you visit Bara Imambara, Chota Imambara, Rumi Darwaza and The Residency.The spectacular Bada Imambara is considered being the largest vaulted apartment in the world comprising of ornamental gateways, corridors and galleries. Unravel the history of the Mutiny of 1857 at the Residency as you explore her ruins and visit the main Residency building which houses an interesting Museum displaying the original model of the Residency, old lithographs, photographs, paintings,documents and period-objects. After the tour you will be transported into the glorious era of the Nawabs of Awadh as you experience traditional hospitality at an exclusive venue. The mesmerising music, exquisite courtesan dance and the Culinary Delights – all combine to bring alive the elegance and charm of the Nawabi era. Day 8

Early this morning the train pulls into New Delhi. Following breakfast on board you will disembark at Safdarjung Station at around 0830 hours. Bid farewell to the Maharajas’ Express as your ‘The Indian Panorama’ journey comes to an end. The royal journey is over, but the memories of which, will live on forever!

Day 1 Sunday - Departure for Agra

Welcome aboard the Maharajas' Express. This morning, assemble at Delhi Safdarjung station at approximately 0830 hours and complete your registration and check in formalities for the Maharajas’ Express, as you enjoy sipping into your welcome drink enjoying the Live Instrumental Music. The Maharajas’ Express departs Delhi at 0930 hours for Agra. Enjoy brunch on board as you arrive into Agra. As you reach the ‘City of Mughal Splendour’, visit the world famous Taj Mahal (one of the Seven Wonders of the World), built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as the mausoleum for his favorite queen Mumtaz Mahal. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this incomparable marvel is constructed entirely out of white marble and is an architectural masterpiece with beautiful inlay work and marble screens. Return back to the Maharajas’ Express. You may choose optional activities such as spa at a five star hotel or a private shopping tour or Mohabbat the Taj show or Visit to Itmad ud Daula. Day 2 Monday - Agra - Ranthambhore

Early this morning, disembark to visit the exquisite Agra Fort. You may choose an optional visit to Itmad-Ud-Daulah. Later, enjoy relaxed breakfast on board as you travel to your next destination Ranthambore. Lunch shall be served onboard. Arrive into Ranthambore at around 1330 hours. Proceed for an exciting game drive at Ranthambore National Park at 1415 hrs. Originally the private hunting ground of the Maharajas of Jaipur, Ranthambore was declared a National Park in 1973. The Park is famous for its open sightings of tigers, sambar, chital, nilgai, chinkara, wild boar, sloth bear, hyena, jackal and leopard. The safari cannot be compared to that of Africa and you are indeed fortunate if you spot the elusive tiger or the shy leopard. The safari is carried out in open vehicles and the ride is quite bumpy. One must carry adequate warm clothes for winter months. Return to the Maharajas’ Express by 1715 hours. Enjoy an “Indian Evening” onboard followed by Dinner as the Maharajas’ Express proceeds for Jaipur. Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner on board. Overnight on the Maharajas’ Express.

Day 3 Tuesday - Jaipur

Enjoy a leisurely breakfast on board. Following disembarkation and a grand traditional welcome, begin your exciting tour of the Pink City with a visit to Amber Fort at 0900 hrs. The Amber Fort, set in picturesque and rugged hills is a fascinating blend of Hindu and Mughal architecture. Constructed by Raja Man Singh I in 1592 and completed by Mirja Raja Jai Singh, the fort was made in red sand stone and white marble. Amber is the classic and romantic fort-palace with a magnificent aura. A short jeep ride takes you up to the fort where you will enjoy a tour of the royal apartments, with striking views of the gorge. Step back into the Mughal era as you enter the Chamber of Mirrors (Sheesh Mahal), and the Hall of Victory. Return back to the train for a leisurely lunch on board. You may also choose to participate in the optional activities such as Spa facilities at a five star hotel or Private shopping tour or Golf at Rambagh Golf Club or visit the City Palace and Jantar Mantar (The Observatory). Your arrival at the venue will be accompanied by the band and the beating of ‘Nagadas’ (huge Indian drums). Day 4 Wednesday - Arrival at Delhi

Breakfast will be served 0715 hours onwards on board as you arrive into Delhi. At 0830 hours Maharajas’ Express arrives Delhi Safdurjung Railway Station. Disembark and bid farewell to the Maharajas’ Express as your journey comes to an end.

Day 2 Thursday - Agra

Arrive into Agra – the Jewel of India. Early this morning, disembark to visit the world famous Taj Mahal (one of the Seven Wonders of the modern World), built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan as the mausoleum for his favourite queen Mumtaz Mahal. A UNESCO World Heritage Site, this incomparable marvel is constructed entirely out of white marble and is an architectural masterpiece with beautiful inlay work and marble screens. Later, enjoy Champagne breakfast at Taj Khema, a tableland overlooking the magnificent Taj! Following breakfast, return to the train. Or you may choose to take an optional tour to the Itmad-ud-Daulah or Fatehpur Sikri or Private Shopping Tour. Please contact the Guest Relations Executive for the optional activities. Return to the train for lunch. After a leisurely lunch onboard visit the Agra Fort or you may choose from one of the optional activities like spa facilities at a five star hotel or a private shopping tour or visit Fatehpur Sikri or Mohabbat the Taj show. Return to the comfort of the train and continue your journey to Sawai Madhopur (Ranthambore). Overnight on the Maharajas’ Express.

Day 3 Friday - Ranthambhor & Jaipur

On arrival into Sawai Madhopur, early in the morning, get ready for an exciting safari to the 'Ranthambore National Park'.
